Abstract: As a means to help all students reach high standards, a Teacher-Researcher describes an online learning environment used by learners. The study is situated in the context of an inquiry-based pedagogy, community-building activities, student attitudes toward computer use, and student conceptions of how knowledge is gained. Findings revealed higher order thinking took place online. Evidence for stages of higher order thinking and the significance of an online categorization task to scaffold students through stages of higher order thinking are presented through four case studies.
